Our keynote lectures will be given by professor, poet Anna Aguilar-Amat from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, professor Michael Cronin from Dublin City University and by the poet and translator Brandon Brown from the United States. Finnish speakers will include publisher Anna-Riikka Carlson, translator and essayist Antti Nylén and the chairman of The Finnish PEN Society, author Jarkko Tontti.
The Conference will be held at The House of Science and Letters in Helsinki from 27.8. to 28.8. Admission is free and the Conference is open to the public. A more precise program can be found at the Conference website: http://poetiikkakonferenssi.fi.
Please also note the following: this year the Conference hosts two workshops meant for translators and writers.
On Saturday, Brandon Brown will direct a playful workshop where you can try out experimental and artistic translation methods; Brown is known for his inventive and experimental translations of Catullus, and has stirred conversation amongst American poets and translators. On Sunday, Anna Aguilar-Amat will discuss her involvement with QUARKpoesia, an organisation dedicated to the translation and publication of minor languages.
If you want to take part in either workshop or even both, please notify us immediately at our email address info (at) poetiikkakonferenssi.fi. Tell us which workshop you'd like to take part in. The first 20 for each will be accepted. We will let you know of your admission at least a week before the Conference.
Welcome to the Poetics Conference!
